This user guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to use this design in addition to things that one must refrain from doing with this design.
Setup / How to Wear
The wearable accessory will be enclosed in a case that should not be opened. In most situations, all necessary components that the user needs to interact with are located outside of the case.
- Attach the case to the armband
- Locate the heart rate monitor, which consists of three (3) electrodes of black, red, and blue colors. Place the electrodes in either configuration as shown in the diagram: Note: with rare exceptions, the human heart is located on the left side of the body

- Locate the skin conductivity sensor, which consists of two hanging wires. Using tape, attach them to opposite sides of the wrist
- Locate the microphone, which is a small circular component. Using tape, attach it as close as possible to the mouth of the user to maximize audio capture and accuracy
- After securing all components, attach the armband to the user’s arm
Basic Operations
Panic Attack Toggle: The device will automatically detect when a panic attack occurs. The panic attack state can also be toggled on/off manually by pressing a blue button located on the microcontroller inside of the case. In the event of a falsely detected panic attack, the user should open the case and press the button.
Modules for Panic Attack Detection: Several components are used to detect panic attacks
- The omnidirectional microphone monitors the breathing rate of the user
- The heart rate monitor monitors the heart rate of the user
- The skin conductivity wires monitor the skin conductivity of the user
Modules for Panic Attack Mitigation: Several components are used to calm the user down during a panic attack
- The speaker plays calming audio
- The LED light emits calming blue light
- The LCD display generates helpful and calming text
